Today is the start of our Namakwaland and Westcoast Wildflower tour. We will be meeting at OR Tambo airport at 7.00am for our flight to depart at 9.10 to Cape Town. We arrive in Cape Town at 11.20am. This morning we will depart and travel in the directions of Langebaan – Velddrif. We will visit the street known as Bokkom Lane. Here you will see how the Bokkoms are dried. From Velddrif we continue to Lambertsbay whilst travelling along the Westcoast. We overnight in Lambertsbay on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast basis. Drinks are for your own account.
After breakfast we depart from Lambertsbay and travel to Nieuwoudtsville. Nieuwoudtsville is known as the bulb capital of the world. Here is a large variety of bulbinella, that are endemic to this region. We also visit the Dutch Reformed Church in this small town. The church is built from sandstone, and the Pulpit is built with white sandstone. We also visit Nieuwoudtville Waterfall, whilst we will be looking for the best flowers in the region. We will depart in the afternoon back to Vanrhynsdorp, at Vanrhynsdorp we visit the Succulent Nursery. At the nursery you will have the opportunity to buy one or two little succulents to take back home. The succulents in this nursery are all native to South Africa. We will be staying overnight at Tharrakamma Guest House on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast basis. Drinks are for your own account.
After a good nights rest and a great breakfast we depart from Vredendal travelling North. We will be passing towns like Bitterfontein, Garies and also the Knersvlakte. Here you will see kilometers of white quartz stones..and in between these little stones you will be surprised to see the succulents that are growing in this “Treasure Chest” We will be heading on to either the Namaqua National Park, or into the Kamiesberg mountains to find the best flowers. It is in this region where you will normally see fields of orange Namaqualand Daisies. We again overnight at the beautiful Tharrakamma Guesthouse. Ronel is our hostess and she goes out of her way to treat us to delicious food from the region. Dinner, Bed and Breakfast basis. Lunch and drinks are for your own account.
Today we travel to Clanwilliam, where we visit the House of Rooibos for a short briefing on the Roobostee plant and Rooibos products, We will also visit the Vellie shoe factory and Ramskop Nature garden. After our visit to Clanwilliam we travel along the beautiful Piekenierskloof pass, to Velddrif. We stay in Velddrif on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast basis. Drinks and lunch for your own account.
After breakfast, we travel to the West Coast National Park, and of course to visit Postberg…which is situated in the National Park. After our visit, we travel back to Cape Town and should be at Century City’s Tsogo Sun Stay Easy Hotel at approximately 4.30pm. We overnight in Cape Town. We are at leisure tonight. No dinner included – Only Bed and Breakfast. Tonight you have a perfect opportunity for friends or family that live in Cape Town to visit.
This morning we enjoy once again a delicious breakfast at our hotel. At 8.00am we leave on an orientation tour of Cape Town and a visit to Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. After our visit to Kirstenbosch we head to Cape Town International Airport where we take our flight back to OR Tambo International Airport.
